Comiket 93 – Review

I have no idea why, but the Comiket came so quickly this year I didn’t even realize it, that’s maybe also the reason why this review is being posted so late (sorry…!). Anyway, this year has brought us some really interesting releases, though if were to say, I think I preferred the works published on C92.

1) 凋叶棕 – 祀

It has been 10 years, huh? 2017 seems to be an Akyuu year (look at all the Diao ye zong covers this year lol). This album commemorates the 10th year anniversary of the 1st Diao ye zong album. So far, it’s packed with secrets and ambiguity, but… I still expect there’s more to come. At least, that’s what I hope for.

2) Feuille-Morte – ワンダリア

And another Comiket with a Feuille-Morte new album! This time, we continue the old story, told in their C92 work. The whole theme of travelling is, for me at least, a great choice, mainly because it connects with almost everyone. RD also finally brought back my beloved Mitsuki! So happy ♥
And, even if you don’t like the musical contents, come on, the illustration itself is probably the best I have ever seen.

3) 豚乙女 (BUTAOTOME) – あやかし横丁

This time, BUTAOTOME is bringing it!! Their new album gives off the Shoujo Rengoku vibes, I have been waiting for something like that for so long! Very excited about this release. On top of that, FINALLY, the last tracks isn’t a typical sad ballad BUTA has been giving us for the past few events.
We also have a new Nekokenban as well as a compilation of vocal songs used in various rhythm games.

4) FELT – Flying Fantastica

FINALLY A PURE FURIES ARRANGEMENT!

This album proves to me the way you cut the XFD greatly affects the way you perceive the song. When I first heard it, I was listening to the XFD provided by Melonbooks, and I was very “meh” after listening it. And then, I listened to the YouTube one, and went immediately into “TAKE ALL MY MONEY THIS IS A MASTERPIEEECEEE!!!”. It is a very solid release, absolutely recommend it (the lyrics for the title track so far seem to be rather interesting).

5) 発熱巫女〜ず – VAMPIRE KISS

I am trying very hard to not impulse buy this album… Hope I won’t fail.
A good news to the older Hatsunetsu fans – Chen-U is back! I am happy, but on the other hand I really loved EL.J… I hope we will get to hear her again ;;

6) ZYTOKINE – AREA LEVEL ONE/NIRVANA

Seems it’s going to be the last only [insert vocalist] ZYTOKINE album, it’s a shame, because I really enjoyed them!
I don’t have that much to say about their regular album, partially because I still cannot seem to get into the HSiFS hype.

7) 魂音泉 – LIVES

8) 四面楚歌 – そして一人だけになった

This album is a compilation of all Diao ye zongxShimensoka tracks. I hope it doesn’t mark the end of their collaborations.

9) Liz Triangle – Triangle

Bye bye, LizTora. We are all grateful for what you did for the Touhou Doujin music community. You will not be forgotten. Thank you all.
White lotus was actually the first LizTora track I have heard. It’s definetly nice to see it rearranged so beautifully.

10) 暁Records – Metamorphosis/コマノエール -全力貢献中!!

To be honest, I am a bit disappointed with the two new Akatsuki albums. Mostly because HSiFS is not really my thing.

11) 死際サテライト – DEAD WEIGHT/DEAD END

Another last album. It has been a wonderful journey, together with them. Shinigiwa Satellite was one of the 1st circle I listened to and I still love them to this day. It’s so sad that the end has come so early, but let’s hope there is much more to come.
Goodbye, Shinigiwa, you will be missed greatly.

12) ナイフ – code

Full song

Quite weirdly, Wani decided to release the full version of the song. I think I like this single a bit more than the rest of Knife’s works. I would like to see a full album come out though.

13) AdamKadmon – マジック

Nothing much to say about this. AdamKadmon becomes more and more… predictable with theri arrangments.

Autumn RTS4 & Kouroumu 13 – Review

This time I am including Autumn RTS as well! The list might still get updated. Haven’t included fav tracks this time.

1) 京都幻想剧团 – 秘封活動記録-祝-Original Soundtrack

The soundtrack from the Hifuu anime, WHOLLY ARRANGED BY RD WHAT MORE CAN YOU WANT INSTANT BUY.

2) Pizuya’s Cell – ガラクタヒロイズム

This album is a pretty nice surprise, I think I may actually like it more than their C92 release, which ended up having only 1 good track. I’m also fairly certain Pizuya will never run out of possible HIfuu arranges lol. If I can complain a bit more, I wish the cover was maybe less… sketch like, I know Futoumeido is a great artist that can do much better than that (look at the previous covers). I’m sorry but this looks more like 1draw piece rather than a booklet cover of well-known circle.

3) 暁Records – 第四回秋季例大祭おまけCD/求観樂映録

Akatsuki finally released what seems to be a first edition of their PVs! I said 1st edition because I hope we’ll get to see more! As for the extra omake CD, it didn’t really buy me on the spot, but this PV collection makes up for that!

4) 魂音泉 – Re:Raise QUADRUPLE

Another remix album by TAMAONSEN! It’s okay, though I wished they remixed more of the newer songs that I know better, since half of them is rather old (like the undying, jokingly, Suicidal #23).

5) IOSYS vs TAMAONSEN – 東方フリースタイル弾ジョン Rec7

Uuuuuhhh, this is probably the best thing I ever heard?? Like, even if you do not like IOSYSY in particular, that’s okay, this is basically your regular TAMAONSEN but with Nanahira on vocals (they’re not that annoying) and 10x more funny. Really, buy that, you’ll have a great time, I loved the 1st rendition of this lyrical masterpiece, Touhou rap battles are the best.

6) anoare – PCB

Never heard of anoare? It’s basically last little while but no vocals. Very calming CD, I recommend checking it out.

Comiket 92 – Review

The time has come! If I were to give a name to this edition of Comic Market, it would be a… Diao ye zong event! Why, you ask? Read till the end, and you shall find out!

If you want to refresh your memory, here is my review post from a year ago, regarding Comiket 90.

I’m sorry for this short review, I’m going to update it tomorrow because today I’m way too tired to think of anything so see you tomorrow!!

1) 凋叶棕 (Diao ye zong) – 音憶

There is… a lot to say about this album. The main theme is “Forgetting”, so the album will deal with the forgotten stories of the girls, also Marisa commits suicide. RD really plays with the title and its meaning, if you’re able to find it, you might find something very… though provoking, I’d say.
Favorite tracks: curse upon me!, emergence, 嘔吐、又。

2) FELT – Rising Nebula

Not as good as the previous album, still JOURNEY delivers the standard FELT quality. I believe it has a great potential and might sound better in the final release. We can also see that AO went in a completely different direction choosing the palette for the album cover, this time focusing on dark colors and bright orange. Also, finally we get a LoLK arrangement (Pure Furies when ;;)

3) 豚乙女 (BUTAOTOME) – CHILD HOOD’S END

FINALLY, we get a strong BUTA album!! As much as I hate to say it, previous album really sucked, C91 album was… okay, but I got bored of it rather quickly – this time, I think BUTA will create something more “lasting”, ahah. It might not be the best BUTA can do (which is Shoujo Rengoku series ww), but definitely something to await! if I had one complaint, it would be about the cover art. I understanding where Paprika was going with it, but, it doesn’t get me completely.

4) Feuille-Morte – タビノウタ

An EP album from the original circle of RD-Sounds! The first track really grew on me, and since it’s RD, I’m absolutely sure the rest of the CD won’t disappoint me! I really like the theme they went for.

5) ZYTOKINE – 50/50

I see what you did, Linjin, merging two albums into one so even if you don’t like remixes/the new Cd, you have to pay for both!! Not like it affects me, because I like both discs! The design of the album’s logo is very smart, I love it ♥

Another wonderful surprise at this Comiket! While YV RTS14 album was… mediocre, their Hifuu album shines brightly! But on the othre hand, how can an album conataining an arrangment of Last occultism be bad? Haha, I enjoy YV albums also because of the wonderful illustrations that come in their booklets. They must be learning from the best, aren’t they?

8) 発熱巫女〜ず – INNER VOICES

2 EL.J tracks =  successful album. Only thing I don’t like about it is the number of the songs Honestly, 1000 JPY for a 5 song album? Tim Vegas, I expected more from you! ON the pother hand, the lacking number of tracks is compensated with the high song quality ♥

9) AdamKadmon – ミラージュ

A… fine album. It’s definitely better than their last one, but it’s still not the same quality as Moon… I don’t know if AK will ever come back to their Moon style arranges, I do hope they will. This album also introduces a new vocalist. her voice strongly reminds me of other doujin vocalist’s voice, but I cannot put my finger on who…

10) ナイフ – Story

If you didn’t know yet, Wani created a mini circle that mostly creates original arrangements centered around Hifuu club. The song is decent, nothing special. I miss Sally btw…

11) Pizuya’s Cell – スタンドアローン/Liquid&Splash

Hifuu albums AGAIN. I don’t really feel like saying much about them, I’m waiting for something fresh.

12) Alstroemeria Records – POP | CULTURE 6/Nachtansicht

Woo, finally a P|C album!! I think I missed them! There’s also a Pure Furies arrange by Nhato. Nachtansicht contains nachi-only tracks.

13) Various doujinshi!

Hanada Hyou is releasing another artbook, this time filled with illustrations from motome to utsutsu! Shimensoka is selling 2 new books; one of them will have an extra track arranged by RD together with vocals by Meramipop. Harshen releases another Diao ye zong based book, this time with only one story about “Die Lorelei”.

Reitaisai 14 – Review

I was so lazy with doing this review, but finally it’s here!
Reitaisai doesn’t seem to be as good as C91 (which was godly, most money I spent on any event before), but we’ve got a few gems here and there.

The list is a bit shorter than the one I wrote for C91, but because I was lazying for the whole time I’ve got only 2 days for writing it, sorry about that, I’ll try and make the C92 more detailed

1)  凋叶棕 (Diao ye zong) – 随

Theme of this album is daily life. Main star of the album is Kosuzu(chansu) with 3(!) arrangements of her newly released theme. So far, I like both the theme as well as arrangments more than ones in tsutae, but I’ll be able to properly judge them when the full version is released.

2) FELT – Increase Beat

AAAA BEST ALBUM SINCE WORLD TRICK SOMEONE HOLD MEEEEEE!!
…With that outta the way (ww), yeah, a huge surprise. I was almost giving up on FELT after Fluster Escape, which ended up being not as nice as I expected it to be, this just simply cannot let me down. Moreover, we’ve finally got a new original vocal track! And the remix of New World…. *drool*.

3) 豚乙女 – 疑似家族入門

Alright, we had some hype, now some complaining. This is one of the plainest, least interesting albums I’ve ever heard BUTAOTOME produce. Quite contrary to sachlich, released this year on March, or even their C91 release. On the other hand, it’s RTS album (BUTAOTOME often releases pretty boring albums on those events), so let’s pray for something better on C92 (m-maybe next vol. of Shoujo Rengoku?? plssss)

4) 8686m – TAKE TOO, TAKE TWO

And I almost thought we won’t see a new album this event, thankfully, we will! If you don’t know yet, 8686m is slowly becoming one of my favorite circles. If you haven’t listened to them yet, please do, they’re a soft rock circle with a wonderful vocalist named Fujiko, I find them very hard to dislike. I dare even say they’re becoming the new kairo. This is their second album, which features themes only from EoSD. Crossfade doesn’t include 5th and 8th track!

5) ZYTOKINE – 4Q8Q/NEWBORN CRYING

Since the 10th anniversary of C/ZYTOKINE is over, the remixed albums are over too. 4Q8Q is a completely new and original album featuring arrangements of some newer tracks (P U R E  F U R I E S). It’s not very good, but not bad either. Even the nachi-only albums is quite… okay… t-though it’s still not like I like nachi or anyting, hmph!

6) 死際サテライト – PURGE EP/FRESH EP

7) _erhm – ハレ日紡ぎ

A circle of Sakiko, featuring arrangements done by various artist (mainly ones with whom Sakiko already worked before in their respective circles). If you’re wondering why the name of her circle looks like that, I recommend checking her twitter username (ww)

8) 暁Records – 少女救世論

Woo, finally a nice Akatsuki album! Previous one had like one good song, this one is much better ♥ It’s a full-Stack album as well.

YV is going back to their normal style, unfortunately we don’t have any more notable tracks, just the average.

12) Hasenpfeffer – shamrock

New awesome circle! Discovered them through 8686m. The leader of this circle is so nice he said he’ll send me the CD, since it’s a RTS limited release!

13) AdamKadmon – アダム

Not as good as Moon from last RTS, still it’s alright. Wani is actually releasing a bundle featuring this CD, new monochrome-coat and a few of his minor albums. If you want to buy it, you can find the bundle on Melonbooks for about 4500 JPY.

Comiket 91 – Review

C91, a.k.a Pure Furies event. You’ll soon see why. Personally – it’s the best event after C85. No jokes. I feel like Touhou is rising anew.

1) 凋叶棕 (Diao ye zong) – 伝

This albums theme will be legends – stories, call it how you want. Everything is kept in a Noh play style. RD is following his usual scheme of Gruesome > Normal > Gruesome and so on albums, so this one should be a bit lighter than 夢.

2) FELT – Fluster Escape

Seems FELT’s not going to continue the style from the previous album – whether it’s good or not is debatable, as for me, I just like the way it is usually, but I wouldn’t mind if it stayed as in Parallel Cross. I don’t know how about you, but Tewi was someone I totally did not expect, not that I dislike their choice ofc, but comparing to C89 album, it’s… clearly not as good. I just hope NAGI won’t lose his goodness, kind of like Masayoshi Minoshima did. Time will tell.

3) 豚乙女 – ぱらだいすろすと

This time, we are getting a mix between Lunarians (and those, who despise them) and our usual Hifuu duo. Theme of the album is a loss of ones home (d-dunno why Hecatia is there then) So far, I don’t think it beats ゲツメンタンサ, that might change in a while though.

4) 死際サテライト – DEAD AGAIN

Come back of Merami! Unfortunately it seems to be the end of EiSeitarou’s usual English lyrics, which saddens me a (lot)bit.

5) ZYTOKINE – 46 ChordeR/SYSTEMA SOLARE

Same as event before, we get a remix of an old album + all (insert ZYTOKINE vocalist) album. Can’t say I wouldn’t want something totally original, but the way it is now is good as well.

6) Yonder Voice – 無名の楽園 〜 Piano Arrange Collection Vol.1

Not the usual Yonder Voice. This time, their album features piano (re)arrangements! So, even if you didn’t like their previous style before, it might be good to take a second look at them. As for me, no matter what song, I’ll always appreciate a piano rearrangement of it, haha!

7) ぴずやの独房 (Pizuya’s Cell) – 交錯ディストーション

Somehow, Pizuya makes Hifuu-club themed albums enjoyable, even though it’s a 3rd album in a row (orz). On another hand, this album has quite a different feel from the Kouromu 12 album, and a COMPLETELY different feel from the C90 one. It’s definitely better than the Kouromu one, but I’m not sure whether it beats Maze of Time Paradoxia.

8) 発熱巫女〜ず (Hatsunetsumiko’s) – TWICE

4 words: EL.J is my goddess.
Hatusnetsu is a perfect example of a summer circle – tracks they mroduce are the best to listen during a sunny, warm weather, while walking in the park, or just the streets of your town. At least that’s the feel I got from this album, and I must note, that I am not the biggest fan of hatsunetsu.

9) 暁Records – KILLOVE FIREPROOF!/GIRLS ALBUM -ONE-

1st album is a Stack only album, nice! Stack is also arranging one track, which is a new thing. Not as good unfortunately as DOWN DOWN DOLL
Second album features a lot of vocalist, such as Nanahira, Meramipop and Chata. The tracks are pretty good, they’re all happy and upbeat (and oh I missed Chata a lot ;w;)

10) 魂音泉 (TAMAONSESN) – STILLING

Alright, I’m SO positively surprised! I am even considering buying STILLING. Still, since Tamaonsen has never been my favorite circle, I put it a bit low, but I definitely recommend checking out the crossfades! Also Matsu+ytr combo is just nghhh ♥
Second album is just an off-vocal compilation.

11) 東方事変 (Touhou Jihen) – 限界パラドックス

Unfortunatly, we don’t have a full XFD (update: WE DO!). So far, I really enjoy it, so I hope other songs won’t let my expectations down.
There seems to be a special CD released with Chata and shuriken so I’m mostly excited about that!

12) DHS – My Interpretations

I have never been an avid fan of DHS. That most likely won’t change, but the album is nice.

13) Register6 – 赤瞳ノ景色

14) Squall of Scream – I’ll be right here

New Touhou metal circle! They’re affiliated with A.M.A., but the circle is led by Noof. So far they have got some interesting tracks, certainly looking forward to them.

15) EastNewSound – Ironic Relation

Nothing really special about this album, ENS is also releasing an instrumental ver. of Tragical Garnet, might look forward to that a bit.

16) Melonbooks Records – 東方PARTYBOX3

Nothing I am looking that much forward in this disk. TOHOBOX still doesn’t beat Tora compilations.

Re-recording of some Mei tracks + one new song (which is pretty mediocre). I think I enjoy the re-recordings, the songs chosen in the album were one of my favs from Mei, so I’m not complaining. After all, I like old-alstr.
As for the favorite tracks from the rest of the albums, I only like ayame tracks.

Kouroumu 12 – Review

Wouldn’t think I’ll be doing that, but yeah.

1) 暁Records (Akatsuki Records) – No Way -Gravity-

For some unknown reason I haven’t included Akatsuki in my C90 review post. Well, can’t help that right now, I won’t change it because it’s kind of meaningless to do it now.
This album features only 3 tracks, but all of them are really top notch, Akatsuki Records is really improving! I suppose a few of those tracks will be featured in their C91 album, so i am not going to buy this single.

2) ZYTOKINE – KARAOKE/THNQ

Wow, I genuinely didn’t expect that coming! A great surprise and an instant buy. I won’t feature my favorite tracks, since it’s only a instrumental version of tracks from THNQ.

3) Diabolic Phantasma – Abaddon’s 5th Chord

First full album of Diabolic Phantasma! (I wonder if the title “Puckish Visions” is a reference to a certain popular Spring 2016 anime…)

Comiket 90 – Review

Another pointless “what albums will I listen to” post. Well, I’m going to list a few albums that I haven’t seen listed anywhere, so, especially if you’re a metal music fan, it’s for you, dear 😉

1) 凋叶棕 (Diao ye zong) – 夢

This time the theme is dreams. The albums is cut into the 2 parts – Bad and Sweet dreams. I like the Bad dream side slightly better, but – it’s not like you believed the Sweet part will be that innocent, right? So far, I like it better than kakage, hisoka and motome.

2) Adust Rain – EViL DANCE MUSIC!!

I’ve became a huge fan of Adust Rain lately. This album consist of remixes of the previous tracks. All of the remixes are EDM remixes, there’s also two new tracks and a cover of a song from other circle, also done in the metal-edm style, if I can call it this way. Actually, I was really surprised Adust Rain chose this theme, nevertheless, I like the turn they did.

3) ZYTOKINE – Ћ⊿⊿θ▽△/PLEIADES

…how am I even supposed to spell the first title?…
Anyway, the first album is a vocal-remake of the album called A SATELLITE IN THE 2ND OUTER SPACE. PLEIADES is a full itori-vocal album. I have a really hard time picking a fav from this 2. I’m really happy with both, especially because itori is my fav ZYTOKINE vocalist, very close to Nana Takahashi (or cold kiss, however you prefer).

4) FELT – Parallel Cross

This time, the first track isn’t arranged by NAGI, but by MZC! I was quite surprised to see that, but it seems it’s not that bad of an idea after all. And I seem to like Vivienne more and more with each song, ahah.

…also, damn, that cover is great. The position Reisen is in reminds me a bit of the first Rebirth Story cover art.

5) CLOCKWORKS TRACER – Perish in Polaritia

Totally not expecting that. Anyways, what can I say – this album is simply GREAT.

6) Yonder Voice – 奏穹のラプソディア

This time I like tracks not sung by Yaoshan. It’s a bit worse in general than Sen no Yukari, still, keeps the quality.

7) 死際サテライト – 橙愛布教委員会公式賛歌 其ノ参

It’s… decent. Not the same as it was with Merami and Chikage(♥), but decent.

8) Pizuya’s Cell – タイムパラドクシアの迷宮

Pizuya back with this damn Jazz ♥ Futoumeido’s voice sounds wonderful as always, we’ve even got R(rrrrrr)anko!
Favorite tracks: 駆ケ落チ、タイムエスケープ, 時計の針、吐息と重なり, ノスタルジックロマンスアドベンチャー

9) 豚乙女 – FREAKS

There’s two things about this album – positive is that FINALLY we’ve got planet of Paprika arranges ♥ negative is that it’s a Hifuu album (expected a 4th Shoujo Rengoku album ;w;).
Also, this album should have a disclamer: Best to hear at night ♥
Favorite tracks: 『不思議の月の冒険譚』, 『いつかの未来よさようなら』, 『薔薇と心眼』

10) AdamKadmon – リリィ / フォレスト

So far, it’s pretty hard to say anytihng about those albums. AK hasn’t released any XFD, just a few tracks – ケイオス-chaos-, Deep forest 【メリー】 ～ 闇のスピードで, Poisonous Paradox, 百合は、刹那く、散りゆく涙.So far my favorite from them is Deep Forest.

Oh, btw, it seems we’ve already got lyrics for Poisonous Paradox.

11) EastNewSound – TragicalGarnet

Nayuta is back in ENS!! Pretty decent album in general, loving the cover art ♥♥

12) 発熱巫女〜ず – “Everything but the Girl” Hatsunetsumiko’s Dance Vocal Collection Vol.2

Liked that slightly more than the previous one. Who knows, I may even like Tim Vegas voice in the end! :’)

13) Alstroemeria Records – ENGAGED DANCEHALL

Alstroemeria goes worse and worse since the POP CULTURE 4. Haruka isn’t writing lyrics anymore, tracks aren’t really catchy. Well, it seems we won’t see the old alst anymore.
